Reasons for a closed rabbitry
- Safety for our family- Our rabbits are located at our home. Inviting strangers into our home is a risk.
- Safety for our rabbits- Having strangers in the rabbitry disrupts their normal routine. Rabbits can become easily stressed. And stress can ultimately kill a rabbit.
- Disease control- Recent scares with Viral Hemmoragic disease has caused many rabbits breeders to close their rabbitry. Breeders have no idea where buyers have been and what they may be bringing into the rabbitry.
- Unruly children- Although our rabbits have been around children, a lot of the adult bunnies prefer a quiet environment. Our kids know when they need to be quiet, especially when mother rabbits have babies. Young children not familiar with rabbits can get easily excited and disrupt the rabbitry.
- Risk of animal rights activists- Animal right activists are against any use of animal for any reason, even owning a pet. ARAs are against animal breeding of any kind. And they will do anything to stop breeders including stealing animals, opening cages to let them out , and reporting false conditions to authorities to get animals seized.
So those are the main reasons that we have a closed rabbitry.
Although some would disagree with these reasons,
this is what works for us.
Although we would love to place you with one of our bunnies,
if you insist that you want to come to our rabbitry,
we will have to recommend that you find
your new family member elsewhere.
